Borosilicate fire-rated glass withstands 800 °C water thermal shock

Unlike standard monolithic non-insulating fire-rated glass, which typically fails under water thermal shock at 400 °C–500 °C, borosilicate fire-rated glass remains intact at 800 °C.

Xionggang Glass produces the material on a 54 m continuous convection tempering line. The process targets imaging defects, stress spots, stress uniformity, throughput, energy consumption and spontaneous breakage rates in monolithic non-insulating fire-rated glass.

Tempered borosilicate fire-rated glass achieves a fire resistance rating exceeding 120 min and maintains high visible light transmittance during a fire. It is used in fire-resistant windows, fire doors, interior fire partitions and curtain walls, and can be processed into laminated, coated, insulating glass unit (IGU) or ceramic frit forms. The substrate’s resistance to high-temperature water thermal shock also suits it to appliance panels such as microwave and induction cooker doors.

The product has passed in-house and third-party testing and meets JC/T 2451-2018 Borosilicate Flat Glass. It is offered as a domestic alternative to imported borosilicate fire-rated glass.
